A call has been made for legislation to protect potential whistle-blowers in St Kitts and Nevis.
The call comes from Carl Browne, who also highlighted the wanton corruption in another re-election initiative of the Timothy Harris-led Team Unity Government.
According to Browne the EC$500 monthly stipend is going into the hands of scores of persons some of whom have houses on rent and own businesses and whose households are making double and triple the EC$3, 000 per household.
“People with stores are getting it. People with houses on rent and have stores in town are getting it. People like us who are getting $2,300 and $2,100, a lot of people of the PEP/STEP are not getting it and they are nowhere near $3,000. These are things that the government needs to look into including two terms for the prime minister,” said Browne while calling in to a local radio programme on Wednesday.
“We need whistle-blowers legislation to protect whistle-blowers because a lot of us know a lot of corruption going on in government, but we cannot go to certain people and tell them because we are going to lose our jobs. You will get squeeze when you tell them. We need whistle-blowers protection legislation,” said Browne, a known Team Unity supporter who, like many persons are frustrated with the wanton corruption taking place in the present administration.
Browne also called for the ope-rationalization of the Freedom of Information Act.
