Approximately 225 farmers and fishers from St. Kitts and Nevis are to benefit from an estimated EC$1 million, in grant funds. The official handing over ceremony for these funds happens this morning, December 6, in a ceremony at the Department of Agriculture, LaGuerite.
The allocation of the grants has been made possible through a joint initiative between the Department of Agriculture and the St. Kitts and Nevis Development Bank.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Al Edwards spoke to us ahead of the ceremony ad provided some insight.
The making available of these grants comes at a time when there has been concern from local farmers about the lack of requisite government support to effectively contribute to the reduction of St. Kitts and Nevis’ high food import bill.
