Dr. Sheryl Rosin, autism specialist, will be doing screenings all tomorrow, Saturday January 12, at the Spectrum Center.
This comes as more attention is being placed on persons with autism.
The screenings also come on the heels of a workshop about sensory processing disorders and how to identify such conditions in people, specifically children on the autism spectrum.
The facilitator for the seminar was occupational therapist Dr. Maria del Pilar Saa, whose services were secured through a collaborative effort between the Rotary Club of St. Kitts and the Ministry of Education.
One major focus of the workshop was sensory integration which refers to the integration and interpretation of sensory stimulation from the environment by the brain.
Autism refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication.
There has been an expansive local awareness campaign to sensitize residents about the condition.
