Bayticol available for livestock farmers; farmers requesting compensation
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Al Edwards says local livestock farmers are benefiting from the availability of a fresh supply of bayticol to combat a tick problem among animals.
He also revealed that a fresh supply is to be procured soon to meet demands from farmers.
His comments come as some farmers, including those from the St. Peter’s area continue to lament the damage that damage caused to livestock by the tropical tick.
Whole herds of cattle have been wiped out and losses are in the thousands of dollars according to some farmers.
Farmers are also challenging the Ministry of Agriculture to do more to compensate them for the losses sustained.
The Ministry of Agriculture had just recently secured a supply of bayticol after non availability of the chemical for an extended period of time.
