Best village competition is integral in boosting sustainable tourism, says tourism officer

The Best Village competition has been reignited by the Ministry of Tourism and other government agencies. The launch of the initiative on Friday last, May 17.

Sharlene Welcome, Community Tourism provided some insight into the competition, especially as it relates to sustainable tourism.

One of the other government agencies that is heavily involved in the project is the Department of Agriculture. Director of Agriculture Melvin James spoke of his agency’s role in making the initiative a success.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Carlene Morton noted that projects such as the Best Village competition are reminders of the integral part residents play in the development of a top class tourism product.

St. Kitts and Nevis won a top award in destination management from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), earlier this year.
