Chinese government reacts furiously to US-Hong Kong bill
US President Donald Trump has signed two bills backing anti-government demonstrators in Hong Kong. The first piece of legislation mandates an annual review of the favourable trade status that Washington grants Hong Kong. It also threatens sanctions against Chinese officials who commit human rights abuses in the territory.
The second bill bans the sale of crowd-control munitions like tear gas and rubber bullets to the Hong Kong police.
China has denounced the action, calling it a serious interference in its internal affairs.
