Civil servants on both St. Kitts and Nevis will be paid a double salary on December 14. The
announcement was made by Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris.
According to Dr. Harris, this will be the third consecutive year the double salary payout will be
made and all federal workers will benefit, including government auxiliary workers, persons on
the Skills Training Empowerment Program (STEP), pensioners, faculty and staff of the Clarence
Fitzroy Bryant College and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA).
The Prime Minister also indicated that statutory bodies such as the St. Kitts Electrical Company
(SKELEC), the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA), the National Housing
Corporation (NHC) and the Tourism Authority have been encouraged to pay double as well.
During his statement the PM also revealed that the annual December holiday pay will be restored
and paid out to government auxiliary employees on the same day.
He made a third revelation in his brief speech, indicating that the poverty alleviation payout will
be made on December 21. Households earning less than EC$3000 dollars per month total are to
receive a $500 dollars monthly stipend, he noted.
Another concession that is being given to citizens for the month of December is duty free
concessions on the importation of barrels and boxes of food stuff, up to 400 pounds. There will
also be no duty on good with a value up to US$200 or EC$540.
