Dr. Douglas Launches Tree Planting Initiative To Combat Climate Change

Local News

Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition in St. Kitts and Nevis and leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, Dr. Denzil Douglas has launched a new initiative aimed at combating the disastrous effects of Climat Change.

While speaking at the Party’s monthly press conference yesterday, October 2nd, Dr. Douglas stated that the time is now for him and the other members of the movement to join in on the fight to save the Caribbean and the world.

Dubbed ‘Trees for Our Future’ the initiative will see members and supporters of the Labour party planting trees across the Federation.

This, Dr. Douglas said, is an indication to the rest of the world that the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis is serious about the fight against climate change, adding that the initiative will also be a positive and substantive start in ensuring the sustainability of the Federations for generations to come.

In a breakdown of the initiative, Dr. Douglas highlighted the growing and global pains as a result of climate change, noting that “climate change threatens the very existence of civilisation”.

He continued, “We must as a community and as a government accept our responsibility to the future generations and act now to protect our young citizens and those yet unborn.”

Notably, research estimates that a worldwide planting program could remove two-thirds of all the emissions that have been pumped into the atmosphere by human activities.

“We must do our part”, Dr. Douglas stressed and encouraged persons across the Federation to join the cause and plant trees.
