Date: 25th August, 2017

Basseterre, ST KITTS (KYSS) – Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas is appealling to the heads of  the federation’s border and security agencies to maintain their integrity at all costs.

Addressing St. Kitts and Nevis’ ongoing battle against illegal firearm and ammunition smuggling, the opposition leader recounted the recent arrest of a Customs officer who is alleged to have facilitated the importation of illegal weapons and the intervention of a top government official into the fiasco.

Dr. Douglas is also adamant that the Comptroller of Customs must be allowed to execute his duties free from intervention and intimidation from his superiors.

Moreover, the former prime minister has further implored the Commissioner of Police and the Comptroller of Customs to “stand on the side of integrity” in an effort to crack down on illegal firearms infiltrating the nation’s borders.
