Jermaine Francis, the St. Kitts and Nevis high jumper at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, aims for a podium spot as he competes later this evening, at the track and field stadium in Videna.
Francis, who just about a year ago, captured bronze at the Central American Caribbean (CAC) Games, is not lacking in confidence as he relishes the stage.
He also represents St. Kitts and Nevis’ last opportunity for a medal this year’s edition of the PanAm Games.
Competition starts at 5.22 p.m.
Among those expected to be in the stands supporting Francis this evening is Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and Minister of Sport, Hon. Shawn Richards.
Francis is one of four athletes for St. Kitts and Nevis at Lima 2019.
Jason Rogers gave a thrilling performance in the 100m as he placed 7th, in a time of 10.46s.
Shenel Crooke and Reanda Richards were eliminated in the semi –finals of their respect disciplines.
Crooke clocked 12.36 seconds in her 100m while Richards clocked 59.42 seconds in the 400m hurdles.
While USA, Brazil and Mexico top the medals table with 82, 36 and 27 golds, respectively, Jamaica leads the English Caribbean with four golds. Trinidad and Tobago has 2 golds.
The Games closing ceremony is Monday, August 12.
