Government says construction to start on housing scheme; opposition lashes out at poor housing record
The government has announced that construction of a housing project at the Manchester Avenue area of Basseterre will begin soon. The announcement comes as the Labour Party candidate and caretaker for constituency 8 Dr. Terrance Drew has lashed out at the government for shortcomings on providing affordable housing for citizens of the country.
According to a release from a government related mouthpiece, the plan is to construct 10 condo styled properties, with six middle income styled homes.
No specific date has been given for the start of construction but two 20 foot containers have been placed near the site, blocking entry to the access to Manchester Avenue.
This housing was to have started over a year ago but the government has stated that the delay was because of the construction of temporary homes to accommodate those who are being displaced.
One night before the announcement of the upcoming start of construction of this new project, Dr. Terrane drew called out the current administration for a poor track record in relation to affordable housing for citizens.

Coincidentally, the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party has long scheduled a public meeting for March 14, in the same area where the containers have been dropped.
