Gun and ammunition confiscated by Police; one in custody
A security forces patrol unit operating in the St. Johnston Village area reacted quickly after a young man acted suspiciously and their rapid response resulted in the confiscation of a firearm and ammunition, earlier this week.
The young man, whose name has not been released, is in custody in relation to the find.
Officers from a joint mobile patrol team in the area observed an individual on a motorbike with what appeared to be a firearm. The individual tried to escape, was pursued by members of the security forces and apprehended shortly after. A search of the area resulted in the discovery of a Glock Pistol with thirteen (13) rounds of ammunition, a Police statement said.
The weapon and ammunition were processed by the Crime Scene Unit and investigations into the incident are on-going.
Prevalence of guns on the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis has been a worrisome issue for years. All eight murders in February of this year were gun related.
