An official release coming from the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party has outlined the incident of constituency number four’s fire to their office, as one done by persons whose aim is to intimidate H.E. The release, which was disseminated late last evening stated that the leadership of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party strongly suspects that this is a malicious and cowardly act of arson that may have been perpetrated by those who desire to use such tactics to intimidate and subdue in advance of the upcoming general elections.
Accordingly, The site has been assessed by the Arson Unit of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, and the party, the community and H.E. Wrensford now awaits a comprehensive report from the Fire Department and the police.
According to His Excellency Steve Wrensford, the Constituency Office suffered severe fire damage, especially to the roof which will need to be completely re-placed.
He further noted that the The windows, doors and all of the contents of the office have been destroyed with the exception of the locked office section.
This incident follows a trend of other unsolved incidents involving fires to constituency officers and property of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.
In the past, attempts were made to destroy the Constituency Branch Offices in St. Christopher Two, located at the corner of Market Street and Cayon Street on February 16, 2015 and St. Christopher Three, located on the corner of Millionaire Street and Cayon Street on November 27, 2017. Earlier this year, several billboards that were erected around the Basseterre area by the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party were vandalized and defaced. This included one billboard that was erected in Newtown by Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, SKNLP candidate for Constituency #1 that was also set on fire.
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party wishes to alert the general public of this alarming trend which may be part of a nefarious attempt to prevent the fair and proper functioning of our electoral process and to limit the democratic rights of the people of our Federation.
