Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts won the women’s triple jump at the 2018 NACAC Senior Championships in Canada on Sunday.
It was Jamaica’s third gold medal of the day and seventh overall at the three-day championships that is in its final day.
Ricketts’ winning mark of 14.25m came on her final jump, but she had three marks over 14m, two of which would have won the competition. Her next best mark was 14.21m that came on her penultimate jump.
The silver medal went to Tori Franklin of the United States. She produced a mark of 14.09m on her penultimate jump but it was her only mark over 14m.
Dominica’s Theo Lafond (13.80m) won the bronze.
Meanwhile, Jamaica picked up silver and bronze medals in the men’s long jump.
The event was won by the USA’s Marquis Dendy whose mark of 8.29m was a mere 5cm better than Tajay Gayle’s 8.24m which landed him the silver medal.
The ever-improving Ramone Bailey with 8.09m won the bronze medal for Jamaica.
