BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (KYSS FM) – Chairperson of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), Hon. Marcella Liburd, although strongly condemning the British Government in the Windrush matter, has welcomed the apology of the United Kingdom Prime Minister Hon. Theresa May.
The Member of Parliament for Central Basseterre also praised the advocacy for justice led by the St. Kitts and Nevis High Commissioner in London, His Excellency Dr. Kevin Isaac and other colleague High Commissioners from the Caribbean.
Caribbean leaders met in London this week for this year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), where they were greeted with an apology from UK Prime Minister Theresa May.
Thousands of Caribbean natives have in recent times faced the very real threat of deportation after living in the United Kingdom for many decades.
This situation came about following the tightening of UK immigration laws under Mrs. May while she was Home Secretary.
This created a dilemma for many who relocated to the UK in the decades following the Second World War – often while still children – as they faced deportation unless they could prove they were entitled to remain in the country.
