BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (KYSS FM) – The multimillion-dollar water taxi pier in Nevis funded from the Sugar Industry Diversification Fund will be completed by mid-December.
This is according to the Deputy Premier of Nevis, Alexis Jeffers.
The pier is being constructed at Jones Estate on Oualie Beach on the northwest coast.
The project is being constructed by Secure Marine, out of St. Maarten, which said the work would resume next week. It was put on hold because of the recent inclement weather.
The project began in 2017 but suffered several setbacks with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and inclement weather. Several completion dates were given in the past.
During the recent sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly Mr. Jeffers disclosed that the contractors in St. Maarten had given the NIA the assurance that the project will be mobilised by 21st November. The pier should be completed by December 15th.
Upon completion, the new water taxi facility will measure 100ft by 10ft and will be another port of entry managed by Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority (NASPA) will have a reception area and parking facility.
