Basseterre, St. Kitts. November26, 2018.- Karisia Willett, who goes by the stage name Miss Independent, says she has much more in the tank after capturing the 2018 Female Calypso Queen title on the opening night of Sugar Mas 47, on November 24.
Miss Independent amassed 246 points with her stirring piece “Ratatat”, a commentary on gun related murders and crime and violence. She indicated that her winning song was inspired by the loss of a close friend to gun violence.
Miss Independent’s capturing of the National Female Calypso crown comes just shy of a year when she made history to become the first ever Calypso Queen of the Senior Calypso Monarch competition.
The new Calypso Queen says she is eagerly looking forward to defending her Senior Calypso Monarch crown on December 29.
Kendra Hutton, the defending queen who goes by the stage name Queen Brown Sugar, took the first runner up spot with a total of 243 points and Queen Kibie, sister to the new queen, was second runner up with 229 points.
