Olivee’ Morris etched himself into the history books of the Antigua and Barbuda Drag Racing fraternity once again.
Morris, the driver of well-known all-wheel drive (AWD) Subaru, Helter Skelter, became the first AWD driver to make an eight-second pass at the North Sound International Raceway.
Competing last weekend at the Tune 4 Tune Revenge event versus cars from Puerto Rico, the Inet Business Junior Technician left M. Desilva in the dust to win the quarter mile race with a record and new personal best of 8.93 seconds.
Desilva finished with a time of 21.5 seconds.
Morris, who spoke exclusively with OBSERVER media, gave us his reaction on his achievement.
“When I realised the time I just felt really excited. It’s something I have been working towards and to finally reach that mark is just a great feeling.”
The 2015 male drag-racer of the year and 2015 National Sports Awards nominee gave us a brief history of how he got started in the sport and what is his next step in the fast-growing sport.
“I guess it came from my childhood days when my father would take my siblings and I to John I’s race track, so the racing vibes was always in me since then and I just made a name for myself as I got older. The opportunity then presented itself when the owner of cars, Mr. Weekes, decided to have two cars and needed another driver.”
“Basically, I am just focusing on breaking more records and hopefully get the chance to represent Antigua and Barbuda overseas. The sky is the limit for me right now.”
