PM HARRIS HISTORY OF UNACCOUNTABILITY CAUSED PLP MEMBERS’ DISTANCE SAYS MP LIBURD

Date: 17th August, 2017

Basseterre, ST KITTS (KYSS) — Honourable Marcella Liburd says a lack of accountability is the central reason why the founding members of the People’s Labour Party (PLP) headed by Dr the Honourable Timothy Harris have distanced themselves from the organisation.

The parliamentarian expressed this position on Wednesday while commenting on the Lanny Davis scandal, the latest to hit the Dr. Timothy Harris-led Team Unity government.

MP Liburd recounted Prime Minister Harris’ claim in December 2016 that American lawyer and lobbyist, Lanny Davis, had worked for the government of St Kitts-Nevis “at no cost to taxpayers,” a claim which has since been contradicted by a foreign income declaration filed by Mr. Davis in the United States.

MP Liburd continued that it is very unlikely Mr. Davis would have been untruthful about the funds he received from the government of St. Kitts-Nevis knowing well the criminal consequences of falsifying financial declarations to the US government.

She went on that it was lack of accountability of this nature on the part of Prime Minister Harris that caused the original members of his own party to splinter off
