Reports of tension within gang circles threaten on-going peace initiative
The strength of the ongoing peace initiative between “rival gangsters”- as government officials have described it- on St. Kitts and Nevis was tested over the weekend, according to informed sources.
Reports surfaced about a tense situation among gang members after a bottle throwing incident during a jam event that was part of the New Town Festival.
Since March, there has been a truce among rival gang members but the full extent of the initiative has not been made known publicly.
Although the peace and quiet has been welcomed by residents of the twin island state, there has been calls for a more transparent account of the truce.
Following Monday’s fracas, Police are said to be concerned that violence within the gang themselves could spread outside the circles and are monitoring the situation.
