Search on for new executive for St. Kitts and Nevis Athletics
There is now an urgent need for persons to fill at least four positions in the St. Kitts and Nevis Athletics Executive, after the President Val Henry and General Secretary Keithly Phillip were removed via a vote of No Confidence, at a special meeting of the body over the past weekend.
The ouster was in line with article 10, #5 of the body’s constitution.
Eight member clubs were present at the Special General Meeting. Each club was allotted two (2) votes. Six clubs (12 votes) voted to have Henry removed while the vote of no confidence was unanimous (16 votes) against Phillip.
The implosion of the executive stemmed from a number of concerns including – Poor communication with clubs
-Non representation of athletes at regional and international meets
– Absence of Developmental Plan and key reports
– Inadequate planning of calendar of events
– Lack of assistance to clubs
According to a statement posted on the body’s social media page, in December 2017, a new team took over the management of athletics in St. Kitts-Nevis. By January 2019, two executive members (Vice President and PRO) had resigned and clubs were already expressing their unhappiness over the way athletic affairs were being conducted.
By mid-August of this year, six of the ten registered clubs wrote to the General Secretary of SKN Athletics, requesting a Special General Meeting in accordance with the constitution, article xi # 5. As no response was received within a reasonable time frame, the clubs then caucused and nine clubs requested an Emergency Meeting to expedite the ventilation of important issues affecting athletics in St. Kitts-Nevis. This was done in accordance with the constitution, article xi #4, the statement added.
On Thursday September 12, the Emergency Meeting took place and lasted over four hours. During that meeting, the decision was made to meet on September 21.
There is now no President, no Vice President, no General Secretary and no PRO.
