BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (KYSSFM) – On the heels of a United Kingdom travel advisory this month warning its citizens of the serious dangers visiting the Federation poses to thier personal safety due to the alarmingly high crime rate, St. Kitts/Nevis Labour Party Chairman, Dr. Terrance drew, says the failure to deliver on campaign promises of addressing the matter is one more major strike against the Dr. Timothy Harris-led government and the Team Unity Coalition.
On Wednesday, Dr. Drew said that prior to the 2015 general elections, the Unity coalition assured the public that they had definite answers to the country’s crime crisis.
Three years later however, not much has changed according to Drew.
Dr. Drew said palpable fear now looms over the Federation with people from all walks of life hesitant to move about freely as they may fall victim to criminal elements.
He also lamented the number of young men who have fallen victim to homicides or have been implicated in other crimes.
The doctor also highlighted the alarming increase in homicides of women and girls.
Very disturbingly there have also been two matters this year alone where persons died under suspicious circumstances, yet autopsies could not determine a cause of death.
One of these is the case of Shaquille Pemberton who was found dead near the airport earlier this year and the other, an as yet unidentified male body that was found on Ottley’s Level.
