Sugar Boys Olympic run comes to an end
St. Kitts and Nevis’ chance to have representation in soccer at the 2020 Olympics in Japan was quashed by the Dominican Republic last night, September 22, when the visiting Dominicanos inflicted a two goals to nil defeat on the hosts, at Warner Park.
The game required extra time as both teams were deadlocked at a scoreless draw after full time ended.
Ronaldo Vasquez pushed the Dominican Republic ahead in the 96th minute and Dorny Romero Chalas doubled the advantage in the 102nd minute.
The Sugar Boys, as the hosts are affectionately referred to, were in a defensive mode for the majority of the game and the matter was further complicated just before half time when home-side was reduced to ten men after a player was sent off because of a dangerous tackle.
Olympic rules dictate that the competing sides are the Under 23 national teams.
