Tributes to continue to pour in honor of the late Dr. Ian Jacobs

Tributes continue to pour in to celebrate the life of respected pediatrician Dr. Ian Jacobs, who passed away yesterday, February 13.

Dr. Jacobs was known for his resplendent level of compassion and he left an indelible mark on patients both in his private practice and through his efforts at the Joseph N France Hospital.

The late paediatrician served for approximately thirty years in the local medical sector.

It was only last year that Dr. Jacobs was presented with the prestigious Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his contribution to nation building in the medical sector.

“This is a big loss for the federation and everyone that went through him. He was gentle, compassionate, caring in every way and a good teacher (I know because I did my clinical rotation in Peds with him). Rest in peace Dr and my deepest condolences to the family as well as the federation,” one tribute stated

“Condolences to his family. A wonderful, loving man! The epitome of what a health care provider should be like. He exemplifies true love for humanity. He will be missed,” another offered.

In many instances Dr. Jacobs was the only paediatrician at the Joseph N France Hospital.

Police say cousins were murdered by masked gunmen

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 9, 2019 – Police in St. Kitts on Saturday said two cousins killed on Friday night were murdered by masked gunmen.

A police statement confirmed the murder of two men in the Green Tree area of Old Road in the shooting that took place just after 10 p.m. on Friday February 8.

“Thirty-three-year-old Musa “Ziggy” Warner and 22-year-old Shakeem Warner were shot multiple times about the body by masked gunmen,” police said.

Both Musa and Shakeem were transported to the J. N. France Hospital by the Emergency Medical Service, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

“Members of the Crime Scene Unit visited and processed the scene. They collected items of evidential value,” police said.

Two victims remain hospitalized after passenger bus crash

Two victims of a major accident between two passenger buses on the island main road, in the New Guinea area, on Wednesday January 23, remain hospitalized and are in critical condition, the Police have revealed.

Initially, six persons were taken to the Joseph N France General Hospital, as a result of the crash, but four were released after medical evaluations.

According to a Police press release, “motor omnibus H8821, which is owned and was being driven by Glenford Henry of Saddlers and motor omnibus HA374, owned and driven by
Desmond Connor of St. Paul’s” were involved in the collision.

“Circumstances are that HA374 was travelling from Basseterre to St. Paul’s and collided with the front of H8821,” the report added.

According to witnesses, the bus referred to as “Carpy” was coming from the Sandy Point area.

Acting Fire and Rescue Chief Everette O’Garro confirmed that some of his personnel had to utilize the “jaws of life” to extricate two persons- one from each bus.

Video footage of the Fire and Rescue services working to extricate the trapped persons from the wreck is being circulated via social media and Whatsapp and there has been much concern for the two victims who had to be freed.

The Police have indicated that investigations are continuing into the matter.

This accident comes within weeks of another serious collision involving two passenger buses in the White Gate area, where one bus driver was pitched yards out of his vehicle, after the impact of the accident.
