Basseterre, ST KITTS (KYSS) — The body of missing 17-year-old Leanna Napoleon, still clothed in her Basseterre High School uniform, was found last week.
Leanna was discovered in a shallow grave in the Olivees area on Wednesday night.
Well informed sources told our reporters that Leanna’s brother has been picked up by police following the gruesome discovery. During the investigation he had been questioned and released by police several times.
Police have since confirmed only that an individual has been detained and is assisting with the investigation.
The BHS student was last seen on May 8th.
If officially ruled a homicide, this latest find would bring the federal homicide rate to 15 for the year 2017.
Commissioner of Police, Ian Queeley, has meantime extended condolences to Leanna’s family and expressed sadness that she was discovered under such unfortunate circumstances.
The Commissioner added that he hoped Leanna’s family can now begin the healing process and find some closure with the news of her discovery.
Condolences have also been issued from the office of the minister of National Security, Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris.
In a statement Wednesday , Dr. Harris expressed condolences to Leanna’s family, friends and her schoolmates and the faculty of the Basseterre High School.
The students and staff of BHS are also being urged to take advantage of counselling services being offered at the school as well as the Counselling Unit of the Department of Social Services.
