Forecasters are keeping an eye on two systems in the Atlantic which could develop into the next storm – one of which is located near the Leeward Islands.
According to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami, there’s a tropical wave several hundred miles east of the Leeward Islands.
It said development will be slow to occur while the system moves slowly northwestward. It has a 10 per cent chance of development over the next two to five days.
The other system being monitored is further away, but it currently has a higher chance of developing into Tropical Storm Humberto.
The low pressure system is just west of the southern Cabo Verde Islands. As it moves westward through the Atlantic Ocean, gradual development is possible as conditions become more conducive for development.
The NHC gives it a low chance (20 per cent) over the next 2 days and a high chance (70 per cent) over the next 5 days of becoming a tropical depression by next week.
