Two persons are assisting the Police with their investigation into and almost deadly shooting incident in the St. Paul’s area, on Monday night last, January 7.
This was revealed by the Police but no other details were provided.
According to an earlier press release from the Police, “22-year-old Calvert Francis, 18-year-old Alvin Browne and a juvenile, all of St. Paul’s, were sitting on a wall next to Lover’s Lane Alley in St. Paul’s, when a car stopped next to them. Investigations have also revealed that two men exited the car and opened fire on them. They ran down the alley in an effort to escape and got shot in the process.
Witnesses spoke of hearing a barrage of shots- approximately two dozen- and also suggested the use of a sub machine weapon, during the commission of the crime.
Reliable sources had indicated that security forces were in the area when the shooting occurred and there was an exchange between them and the unidentified attackers. Sources also indicated that the security forces were in pursuit of the gunmen for a period of time.
The police confirmed this in their statement saying, “Police, who were on patrol in the area heard the shots and responded quickly. They intervened to halt the attack and a number of shots were fired at the car. The car fled the scene and they gave chase, intercepting the vehicle in Christ Church. The occupants exited the vehicle and made their escape on foot. The scene at Christ Church was processed and the car was taken to into Police custody for further inspection and processing.”
The shooting incident, as well as the immediate outcome of the Police chase, has sparked mixed reactions from the public. Many have been trying to grasp the strategies used by the Police to apprehend the gunmen.
