BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The ongoing unrest at the National Housing Corporation (NHC) continued today after yet another emergency meeting of the NHC Board of Directors was held on Monday 12th November.
Yesterday’s meeting, reportedly the third in a series of emergency sittings since 8th November, came following an earlier decision to place NHC General Manager, Elretha Simpson-Browne on vacation.
Mrs. Simpson-Browne’s vacation, which came in to effect yesterday, will last for two months.
Information reaching SKN News now indicates that on Friday 9th November, Mrs. Simpson-Browne was instructed to hand over all keys to the office and any NHC documents in her possession. We have also learnt that following her departure, the locks to NHC offices were changes.
Between Friday and Monday’s meeting, the NHC Board also met on Sunday 11th November at the Solid Waste Management Office.
At Monday’s Board meeting, decisions were seemingly taken to remove both the General Manager’s Deputy and secretary from their positions.
It is unknown whether these actions are temporary or if, has been the case in other similar instances of sudden forced vacation, whether they will prove to be a signal that the affected persons could find themselves in the unemployment line.
