Youth volleyball players capture awards at regional tournament; poised for greater results
Captain of the St. Kitts and Nevis Male Under 21 volleyball team Elkreen “Ekam” Morton and libero (defensive specialist) Ajani Adams were named to the ECVA U21 All Star team, following St. Lucia’s defeat of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to secure the championship last night, September 1.
Morton was selected as best setter and Adams was adjudged best libero, in the just concluded tournament, despite St. Kitts and Nevis going winless in the four day competition.
The two were celebrated by their teammates- who were in great spirits- after being named to the All Star squad.
St. Kitts and Nevis had a chance to secure the bronze medal position against host Antigua and Barbuda but the team was beaten by a stronger Antigua and Barbuda team in three straight sets.
The tournament was also St. Kitts and Nevis’ return to junior level competition after an absence in excess of 20 years. For many, just to be able to field a team for the tournament was an achievement.
The players have committed to going straight back to training on their return home and they are hoping to be the faces of St. Kitts and Nevis volleyball for years to come.
The team which also included Zedan Clarke, Rydell Jeffers, Raheem Phipps, Kyle Douglas, Tiquan Jacobs, Azielle Belle, Zendai Richards and Lemuel Chiverton, returned home last night, September 2.
